In the 17th Century when the blind Benedictine monk Dom Perignon discovered the secret of bubbly wine, little did he know it would become the world’s most prestigious drink and establish the Champagne Region as a popular tourist destination. Reims is the perfect base for our short break with its wealth of history and culture. The Cathedral is one of the finest in France and is where 34 kings were crowned. The nearby Archbishops Palace ad Basillica of St Remi are architectural gems. Fine shops, restaurants and champagne houses are a popular feature of the City. We tour the vineyards visiting Epernay and the famous windmill “Moulon de Verzanay. The highlight of our day will be a visit and tastings at Rafflin-Lepitre Champagne in the village of Chigny-Les-Roses. Optional half day tour of the French WW1 Fortress at Verdun.

After early dinner at the 4* Holiday Inn, Heathrow, we visit Kew Gardens. At dusk the gardens light up a festive trail of lights, illuminated trees with lasers dancing in canopies. On Sunday we visit Chelsea with shops along King's Road and locations of the TV Series 'Made in Chelsea'. For lovers of antiques we suggest a visit to Lotts Road Auction Rooms to seek a bargain or spot the rich and famous!

On our homeward journey we forsake the ultra-modern for a visit to Cirencester, Capital of the Cotswolds.
